Morgan McKinley partners with Johnson & Johnson for an exclusive networking and recruiting event

As a part of Morgan McKinley’s ongoing commitment to be your Career Partner, Morgan McKinley’s Tokyo Finance and Accounting team hosted a networking / recruiting event on Wednesday, November 7.

Invites went out to bilingual finance and accounting professionals in Tokyo and also to Finance Directors and CFOs from Johnson & Johnson.

The purpose of the event was to allow finance and accounting professionals to hear first-hand from various finance teams at Johnson & Johnson. Roughly 40 people attended overall. Attendees came from a wide range of backgrounds, including retail, pharmaceuticals, consulting, and financial services. The event was open to professionals working at a Senior Analyst level through to Director level professionals.

Johnson & Johnson brought 6 Finance Directors, including 2 CFOs to the event. The Finance Directors and CFOs from Johnson & Johnson prepared topics of conversation and made themselves available to speak to attendees directly regarding finance and accounting opportunities at Johnson & Johnson and other topics.

The event consisted of a panel discussion followed by networking over food and drinks. While the exact contents of the discussions are exclusive to those who were able to attend, I can provide a summary of what information was shared below.

The panel discussion provided an environment for finance representatives from Johnson & Johnson to speak about various ongoing topics at the company. Topics included but were not limited to:

Growth and stability of Johnson & Johnson, in Japan and globally

Work-life balance at Johnson & Johnson and opportunities for internal transfer

Future of Johnson & Johnson, including ventures into M&A

How accounting at healthcare companies is different from accounting at other industries

Structure of finance teams at Johnson & Johnson

Current trends regarding commitment to talent development

After the panel discussions, participants had the opportunity to network directly with various Finance Directors across all of the Johnson & Johnson businesses (Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, Vision Care and Consumer). This allowed finance professionals to informally speak one-on-one about specific questions they had about employment opportunities at Johnson & Johnson. Most attendees were interested in Financial Planning & Analysis roles but there was also a strong interest for Financial Controlling, Tax, and also M&A positions.

As topics of conversation, Johnson & Johnson shared details regarding its planned hiring trends are for the end of 2018 through 2019, expectations of daily work at Johnson & Johnson, and some perks of working at one of the world’s largest producers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and consumer goods.

Johnson & Johnson began business in Japan in 1958. Within Japan, Johnson & Johnson has three distribution centers, two plants, one science center, and one HQ office, which is located in Nishikanda in Tokyo.

Johnson & Johnson has a number of business units. Each of these business units operates independently, but also works within the Johnson & Johnson family to provide the best services and products to its customers. These business units can be identified as:

  • Medical devices
  • Janssen
  • Vision Care
  • Consumer
  • AMO
  • Actelion

Between these business units and seven different locations in Japan, there are a significant amount of job opportunities for finance professionals at Johnson & Johnson within Japan.
