3 Questions to Ask at Your next Tech Interview

Gerard Noakes 16 Nov 2017

If you have ever interviewed for a job, I am sure you will know the time in the interview when you might get caught unawares.

The interviewer turns to you and says ‘are there any questions you have for us?’ and you freeze.

Being put on the spot can be surprising and if you aren’t prepared with some good questions, it can ruin the good you have done throughout the interview so far.

Here I would like to outline 3 questions that I think show you have put some real thought into your application and the company, and your future with them

  • If successful, what can I do to prepare for my first day on the job? - this shows you are thinking about how you can get up to speed as quickly as possible, maybe there are some new updates in C++ or Java you need to read up on, maybe it has been a long time since you took your CCNA
  • What kind of qualities do you think a person needs to be successful in this role? - show them you are flexible, and can adapt to the company culture and challenges - there is nothing worse than someone who is too hardheaded
  • Do you enjoy working here/Do you enjoy doing this role? - this one is a little risky, as it can be too personal, but if you have built up a rapport through the interview, it can be quite a candid look into the company, and often the first reaction you get from the interviewer will be very telling

Of course, there are a whole host of questions you shouldn’t ask at an interview, that can be your undoing, and I will cover these in my next blog

If you are thinking about your next move in 2018, or are looking for people for your team, feel free to get in touch and we can give you some information on the market in Tokyo.
